The Briggs family farm, and everyone who calls it home.
Nine years old, farm-raised, and stubborn in the best way. Cody notices things other people miss, a scuffed boot, a missing ribbon, a friend having a hard week, and he can’t leave well enough alone once he has. He keeps a notebook on him at all times, just in case.
Cody’s dog and constant companion. One blue eye, one brown eye, and a copper-and-white coat that turns heads at the county fair. Her tail goes like a helicopter blade when she’s happy, and she presses in close when something’s wrong. Where Cody goes, Koda goes.
The Briggs family’s barn cat. Nobody remembers exactly when she showed up, only that she runs the barn now. Nimbus keeps her own hours, chooses her own people, and misses nothing that happens on the farm. When something goes missing, she’s usually the reason, and usually for a good one.
Runs the farm, steady and quiet about it. Proud of Cody in the way that shows up more in what he does than what he says.
Runs the flower shop in town. Warm, watchful, and good at knowing when someone needs a minute before they need words.
Fourteen years old. Eye-rolling, but not unkind, and she notices more of what happens on the farm than she lets on.
